The Problem
Pet owners often face challenges in securing vet appointments for non-emergency needs, resulting in increased wait times, limited options, and delays in prescriptions, causing stress for both owners and pets.
Gathering Insights
To begin the design process, I explored how competitors in the pet healthcare space approached their services. I observed how they offered features like online vet booking, prescription orders, and chat options, but the experience remained fragmented across multiple platforms.
-
Competitors prioritize their own brand services, making it difficult for users to connect with nearby vets, reducing convenience and choice.
-
Competitors offer isolated features such as booking, prescription delivery, or vet chat, but rarely combine them.
-
Competitors don’t provide a unified experience for tracking visits, prescriptions, and real-time vet communication
Understanding Pet Owners
By analyzing the quantitative and qualitative data from surveys and interviews, I gained insights into the diverse needs of pet owners. This understanding helped me to prioritize their goals and design a more tailored experience in the VetPet platform.

EMILY RODRIGUEZ
Emily Rodriguez
Pet Owner, 35 years old,
"I adore my vet, he's practically family at this point, but these websites keep trying to send me to clinics I’ve never heard of! I mean, I’m not driving an hour just for a check-up when I know a great vet down the road.(...) Why can’t I just stick with the people who know my fur babies best?" -

Anderson Perez
Pet Owner, 27 years old
"It’s honestly ridiculous. I have to use one website to book a vet and another to order prescriptions- if it lets me, it’s a waste of time. Everything should be in one place, no excuses." -
Linda Emerson
Linda Emerson
Pet Parent, 33 years old
"I can barely keep up with my own schedule, let alone my dog’s vet visits and prescriptions! She’s getting up there in age. Every time I log in, it’s like starting from scratch. If these websites could just remember things for me, it’d save me so much time, I forget everything as it is!"
The Solution
Create a user-friendly platform that simplifies the process of searching and booking vet appointments. The platform will track pet visits and prescriptions, provide 24/7 vet chat support, and ensure prompt prescription delivery, enhancing service speed and improving pet health outcomes.
-
Develop a seamless search feature that allows users to quickly find and book appointments with nearby vets based on availability and proximity.
-
Create a personalized dashboard where users can track their pets' health records, including vet visits, prescriptions, and medical history, all in one place.
-
Enable 24/7 live chat functionality with licensed vets, offering users immediate advice and assistance for their pets' health concerns.
The Wireframes
The first iteration before moving on to the final design for prototyping and user testing, I designed a med-fidelity wireframe that acted as the initial blue print. This ensured I was heading in the right direction before putting it all together.

Beyond the design system
The VetPet brand identity is built around values of commitment. A blue and yellow palette conveys trust and joy, grounding it with warm tones for maturity. Expressive, rounded shapes highlight the playful nature of animals, with a typeface pairing that balances approachability and legibility, symbolizing trust in finding lifelong veterinary care.
In Every Shape of Commitment
